Your Say on How We Play

We have three exciting new opportunities for you to help shape the provision of play opportunities in Wodonga.

  • Max Gray Park Playground
  • Avalon Park Playground - stage 2 consultation
  • Willow Park Playground

We are seeking your feedback to help ensure that we understand your views on what makes a quality play opportunity that is exciting, engaging and sustainable.

Background

Wodonga Council is committed to the provision of high-quality play environments across the municipality. These should be equitable and diverse; accessible, inclusive, stimulating and challenging for a variety of age ranges. Play spaces should account for children’s physical, social, cognitive, emotional and creative skills offering variety.

The Wodonga Playspace Strategy 2024-2029 guides the development of our play space network, site assessments and independent and safety audits determine renewal recommendations and prioritisation.

Details of what is happening at each playground can be found by clicking on the project page above. Please check out one or all of the pages to help shape how we play in Wodonga.

Play space precincts

To assist with analysis and identifying priorities, Wodonga has been divided into play space precincts. These precincts are designed between major roads and waterway barriers to ensure that play space provision is accessible and does not require residents to traverse major roads or rivers.

No one play space on its own will meet the needs of every resident as people’s needs and interests vary from time to time and person to person. Precincts should provide a diverse spectrum of types of spaces for the purposes of play and recreation, as well as for habitat and amenity, to allow children to experience a range of types of space.

It is assumed that people will be able to move around their neighbourhood, between choices of parks and play spaces.

Objectives of our playgrounds

  • Comfortable for everyone - play spaces are designed and maintained to provide reasonable safety and adequate access, shade and seating to ensure people of all ages, abilities, gender and cultural backgrounds are comfortable.
  • Environmentally and economically sustainable - provide value for money and protect the environment by prioritising efficient and effective play opportunities that are flexible, maximise facility use and consider impacts on and connections with the natural environment.
  • Within reach for everyone - provide play spaces within a short walk of all residents in urban areas, in convenient locations and a part of the connected open space network.
  • Diverse with varied opportunities for play - provide diverse opportunities within each precinct / neighbourhood including unique and site-specific designs / materials that represent the local environment.
