Why we're consulting

As Wodonga grows, so too does demand for its community facilities. Gateway Village’s community facilities are much loved, but many are ageing and need renewal. In the past, facility upgrades have occurred in an adhoc manner, not holistically across the precinct.

The objectives of the Draft Gateway Village Master Plan are to:

  • Consult and engage with the key user groups and other identified key stakeholders to inform them of the project;
  • Identify opportunities to maximise ageing infrastructure;
  • Explore governance models for the management of the Village and its tenants;
  • Increase commercial and economic activity associated through the site with greater activation and service offerings; and,
  • Enhance public amenity and create a vibrant precinct, through exploring opportunities for improvements to internal pedestrian connectivity, views, and connections to other Precincts, the Village Heart, picnic and barbecue areas, nature-based play areas for children, whilst considering accessibility and inclusive design elements.

This draft master plan considers the range of activities at the site, leisure needs for the city, connectivity to Wodonga’s path network, and supporting infrastructure for the range of businesses and activities at each site. It recognises and responds to the natural features and unique character of Gateway Village.

You are invited to review the draft master plan and share your thoughts.

The Gateway Village precinct has been subject to a number of previous studies (1997, 2002 and 2018) that have helped guide decision-making and shape the precinct.

The most recent was a review within the Gateway Island Master Plan 2018. The objective of this planning was to establish an overarching long-term vision and values for the entire area with a lens towards future planning and business opportunities for tourism and social interaction.

In developing the Draft Gateway Village Master Plan, broad community engagement was completed in stage 1. Previous master planning related to the site, the current and future need of the precinct based on demographics, and the overarching vision of the Wodonga Council Plan were also considered. This sought to review and understand the precinct in order to develop a set of goals and directions.
