Why we're consulting

The Draft Diamond Park Master Plan aims to ensure the continued sustainable growth of the sports and events at held Diamond Park, by guiding development, and retaining the values that contribute to the appeal of the site to the community.

Earlier this year, consultants ROSS Planning heard from local clubs, community stakeholder groups, park users and the wider community. Feedback received from community members has informed the draft master plan.

At its November meeting, the council endorsed the Draft Diamond Park Master Plan to go on public exhibition for community members to have their say.

Improvements proposed in the master plan are not significant and are designed to enhance existing features and improve connectivity while maintaining the natural environment of the park.

Background information

Diamond Park is a recreation precinct within Gateway Island. Detailed precinct master planning for these sites was identified as part of recommendations in the Gateway Island Master Plan 2018. The Diamond Park Master Plan will sit under the overarching Gateway Island Master Plan 2018 and will have precinct and site specific actions.

The precinct is a community recreation and sport park that is home to organised activities while providing a pleasant natural setting along Wodonga Creek. It is the home of three community and sport clubs providing opportunities in speedway, motocross and dirt bike motorcycling, on and off-road radio-controlled car racing and a live-steam miniature railway offering public ride days.

The objective of this planning was to establish an overarching long-term vision and values for the entire area with a lens towards future planning and business opportunities for tourism and social interaction. As part of this planning, recommendations for potential usage and improvements in each precinct were made related to the river, environment, social, activity, amenity, tourism and economic opportunities at a high level.
