In January, the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria advised that the road name Champion Crescent was rejected due to its similarity and duplication of Champions Drive in Glenroy, in Albury.

Triumph Crescent is now proposed as the name for the secondary access road at Baranduda Fields Sporting precinct.

The council is now seeking feedback from the community to guide this decision.

Background information

The Wodonga Council, following a recommendation from the Place Names Advisory Committee and feedback from a public notification period, resolved to allocate the names of Athlete Avenue and Champions Crescent to the two access roads within the Baranduda Fields precinct.

As noted above, the name Champions Crescent has been rejected by the Registrar, Geographic Names Victoria, as it believes that it is a duplication of Champions Drive in Glenroy, Albury.

As the Place Names Advisory Committee does not currently exist (a further report to be presented to the March 2024 Council meeting), it is proposed that this officer’s report forms the basis of consideration of an alternate, but related road name to the precinct and that said alternate road name be tested with the Wodonga community via a public notice.

It is hereby proposed that the alternate road name of Triumph Crescent be considered.

Triumph is defined as a very great success, achievement, or victory when considered in the context of competition.

It is necessary to ensure that road names are allocated and gazetted before the Bararanduda Fields sporting complex is in use.
