Why we're consulting
Council is proposing to name a park in the Riverview Estate of Killara - bound by Cuthbert Street, Charlton Road, Lukin Lane and Devitt Way - as Glencroft Park. This park has previously been identified as Lukin Lane Reserve and last year had a playground installed for the benefit of the community.
The proposed name recognises the historical connection of the former farm 'Glencroft', which was located in the area.
A public consultation period of 30 days will be undertaken to inform the community and provide the community with the opportunity to identify any objections to the proposed name. All submissions received will be considered and any objections received will be presented to Council for a final decision. If no objections are received, the name will proceed to the Registrar of Geographic Names for gazettal.
History
The proposed name was identified by the Odewahn family who were the last owner of the farm from 1964 until the early 1970s when it was purchased by the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation. The family continued to lease the land from the Corporation for many years following the sale.
Prior to the Odewahn family's ownership, the farm was owned by Cob and Co (then the Coulston family) and operated as a horse stud and poultry farm.
The farm name was always known as “Glencroft” and can be traced back to the early 1900's.
According to the Odewahn family, the original location of the farm was alongside the creek around the Riverview Estate area with the edge of the farm located where the proposed park is now situated.
