Names have been proposed for two parks located in Leneva.

The first name is Brigade Park, suggested for the park located in Hillcrest St, Leneva.

The second name is Elyne Mitchell Park, suggested for the park located on the corner or Dwyer Ave and Easton Lane, Leneva.

We invite feedback regarding the proposed names.

Officers will consider any submissions received before submitting a report back to the council.

If no submissions are received the proposed names will be adopted and forwarded to the Registrar of Geographic Names to undertake the gazettal procedure.

Background information

The developing residential estate at Leneva has a ‘CFA-themed’ road naming structure and the proposed name of this public space continues that theme of commemorating CFA personnel who have passed.

Elyne Mithcell was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to literature in 1990.

She was the author of the Silver Brumby series. The book series were created to encourage younger generations to make a difference to their community.

She was also an accomplished skier, trailblazing conservationist and latter day High Country explorer.

Elyne and parliamentarian husband, Thomas Mitchell, lived most of their lives in the Upper Murray Region of Victoria.
