Construction to commence at Lou Lieberman Playground

21 March 2025

In 2024, we sought the community’s feedback to guide the renewal of Lou Lieberman Playground.

During community consultation in August 2024, it was identified that the community preference was for the addition of a swing set and one or two new features.

This concept design was presented and the community was asked to provide their feedback.

In response to concerns regarding access to the slide, an additional platform was added to the design to allow a platform ladder with side rails for younger children. The addition of this platform further allowed minor play enhancements for creative play, such as binoculars and a steering wheel.

Fencing was considered but the linear design of the park and the playground's proximity to the road does not meet the criteria for fencing consideration.

The catchment and location of the playground, the slop of the site, distance from neighbouring residences as well as its connectivity and distance from Willow Park, which has a basketball backboard and skate park for older children, meant a basketball court was deemed unsuitable.

The space is surrounded by established and establishing trees, which provide a level of coverage at most points in the day. Accordingly, it was determined shade structure would not be suitable. This natural coverage will improve over the next five years and there is already a water bubbler on site.

Lou Lieberman Playground will be closed from Monday, March 24 for the renewal works to take place. Works are expected to take up to 2 weeks.

During this time the playground will not be available.

The nearest playgrounds are Willow Park and Peter Frawley Snr Park.
