Lou Lieberman Playground is a locally classified playground identified for a small upgrade.
During community consultation in August 2024, it was identified that the community preference was for the addition of a swing set and one or two new features.
Refurbishment of the existing unit was investigated however, following a detailed evaluation and updated costings, it was confirmed that a full replacement could be achieved within the existing project budget and provide a greater return on investment.
Informed by the community feedback, the draft concept design for the renewal of Lou Lieberman Playground increases the play opportunities for a broader range of children, and will enhance the surrounding environment.
You are invited to share your thoughts on the proposed design.

Background information
Lou Lieberman Playground is a locally classified playground identified for a small upgrade.
A local play space serves homes generally within 10 minutes’ walk or 500m for families and its primary purpose is for play and social recreation. They are important meeting places for local children, teenagers and families.
It should have shade trees, seating and a rubbish bin, but barbecues, toilets and parking are not required as visits are likely to be of short duration and its role is serving homes within walking distance. The age range of equipment may focus on a narrower age group.
Lou Lieberman is located within playground precinct Wodonga 10 (W10), between Pearce Street and Yarralumla Drive. The existing play space is within an attractive linear reserve with large shade trees and numerous plantings throughout the space.
The nearest playgrounds are Peter Frawley Park and Thomas Reidy Park. Willow Park (less than 1km away) is the largest nearby neighbourhood level space linked to the precinct by the House Creek Trail.
Financial sustainability requires a balance between the delivery of new assets and the maintenance, renewal and disposal of existing assets.
Currently, there is a small multiplay unit, seesaw and individual rocker in Lou Lieberman Playground. The existing seesaw and rocker are at end of life and will be removed.
The evaluation which was completed following community consultation took into account the lifecycle costs of the equipment (including asset renewal and maintenance) and determined that a full replacement of the unit would be a better return on investment.
