Why we're consulting

At the council meeting on Monday, September 18, councillors resolved to support the Draft Alcohol Policy and Draft Gambling Policy for community feedback.

We are now seeking feedback on the draft policies. This is your opportunity to review the documents, tell us what you like or if there is something you don't agree with and put forward your ideas for consideration.

Background information

The Draft Alcohol Policy and Draft Gambling Policy aim to mitigate the harms associated with alcohol and gambling by promoting responsible and safe drinking and gambling cultures, all while fostering economic growth.

These policies outline the council's legislative and strategic responsibilities aimed at promoting and protecting the health and well-being of Wodonga residents and visitors. They establish robust, evidence-based approaches to making planning and regulatory decisions related to Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs) and licensed establishments within the city. Furthermore, they articulate the council's commitment to a public health approach.

The development of both draft policies involved a community engagement process, where valuable insights and findings have been gathered from a range of stakeholders and community members. You can learn more about this consultation here.
