There are 7,452 registered dogs and 1900 registered cats in Wodonga.
It’s estimated that by 2036, there will be at least 10,818 registered dogs in the city.
As a requirement of the Victorian Domestic Animals Act 1994 (version 87), all Victorian councils must prepare and implement a Domestic Animal Management Plan (the plan).
This plan promotes responsible pet ownership, prioritises the welfare of dogs and cats in the community and adherence to relevant Local Laws.
The current plan - the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021 to 2025 - is due for renewal.
The council is seeking the community's view, concerns and priorities regarding key topics that are raised in the plan, to inform the development of the new one.
The key topics include the following.
- Management of lost, abandoned or relinquished dogs or cats
- Consideration of off-leash areas
- Cat curfew
Together, we can build a fair and effective strategy for managing companion animals in the community.
