Why we're consulting

Wodonga Council is seeking community feedback to help guide the design of an exciting, engaging and sustainable play space within the Avalon Park Estate Reserve, which the council will be upgrading in 2026.

The allocated location is approximately 7,000m2 and is located at the corner of Winter Drive and Glenwood Boulevard.

The new play space will be developed to a neighbourhood level, catering to a wide range of age groups, from pre-schoolers through to secondary school students. It will be medium to large in size, with between five and ten play features. The design will also include a shade structure or shelter, at least two to three picnic tables with bench seating, low-maintenance mulched garden beds and a water bubbler.

Depending on community feedback and design, outdoor fitness equipment, a half netball/basketball and fencing may also be considered.

Use the budget tool below to let us know which features you’d most like to see in the new play space.

Background

Wodonga Council is committed to the provision of high-quality play environments across the municipality. These should be equitable and diverse; accessible, inclusive, stimulating and challenging for a variety of age ranges. Play spaces should account for children’s physical, social, cognitive, emotional and creative skills offering variety.

The Wodonga Playspace Strategy 2024-2029 guides the development of our play space network, site assessments and independent and safety audits determine renewal recommendations and prioritisation.

Ground leveling and connection to services are being completed within the reserve prior to development.

The site is located within the B2 Precinct and sits between a WREN reserve, segregated by farm fencing, and a retention basin. Landscaping and plantings will separate the water resources from the reserve and play elements will be placed physically distanced from that part of the space.

The nearest alternate playgrounds are Ponting Way and Mel Read.

Toilets and car parking are outside the scope of the project and may be considered for future improvements subject to further development within the reserve.
