Why we're consulting
At its meeting held on February 8, 2023, the Wodonga Place Names Advisory Committee (PNC) resolved to propose two new road names to the council for consideration – these roads being located within the Baranduda Fields sporting precinct.
The PNC propose that the road names Athlete Avenue and Champion Crescent be considered for the two roads leading into and providing access to the sporting facilities at Baranduda Fields.
The PNC will consider any submissions received before submitting a report back to the council.
If no submissions are received the proposed names will be adopted and forwarded to the Registrar of Geographic Names to undertake the gazettal procedure.
Background information
At its meeting held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, the Wodonga Place Names Advisory Committee (PNC) resolved to name the main access road into the Baranduda Fields sporting precinct as Athlete Avenue and the secondary road providing access to the northern edge of the football oval as Champion Crescent.
Baranduda Fields is a major regional sport facility under development with both the abovementioned roads already constructed. This sport precinct will provide local community a state-level facility and will be able to host many local, regional and state level sporting events.
While the PNC originally considered perhaps attaching the names of prominent sporting personalities to these roads, it ultimately resolved to propose the use of broader-context sporting terms in this instance. It may at a later date consider naming individual fields after prominent sporting code personalities.
