Under item 7 of the current Local Law, permits allow people to vary a local law provision by making a permit application to council.

Permit applications are assessed against the criteria established in the standards and guidelines.

After review, council may issue a permit with or without conditions or refuse to issue a permit.

Without a permit, actions that go against the Local Law and Standards and Guidelines are considered offences and may result in an infringement notice and penalties.

All Local Laws require permits to be issued to permit certain activities.

Examples include events, road closures, housing of animals, street trading, and the consumption of alcohol between certain times and in certain municipal places.
