Part F of the current Local Law outlines the number of animals and birds which may be kept, the condition under which animals are kept, the noise and smell of animals, animal litter, as well as wondering animals and birds.

Currently, without a permit an owner or occupier cannot:

  • Keep more than two dogs or cats; or,
  • Keep animals other than dogs or cats.

Animals other than dogs and cats may be kept if a permit is obtained, however, limits are applied.

If an owner or occupier would like to keep more than two dogs or cats, a permit must be obtained.

The standards and guidelines outline what should be considered in granting a permit and also what conditions may be applied to a permit.

Current rules restrict the number of domestic pets (being cats and dogs) to a maximum of two dogs and two cats.

As property sizes are getting smaller, current rules and guidelines around the keeping of other non-domestic pets need to be reviewed.

  1. Decrease the number of pets based on the type and size of the dwelling.
