Why we're consulting
Diversity within the Wodonga community is recognised as one of our city’s greatest strengths and everyone in our community must enjoy the same opportunities, rights and respect. Creating an equitable and inclusive community is critical to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and the broader community. To enable this, Wodonga Council has developed a draft Disability Action Plan which we are seeking your feedback on.
The Disability Action Plan will provide guidance on how we will fulfil strategic commitments to improve access and inclusion and ensure liveable and connected communities. It will play an integral role as we progress towards the Wodonga 2050 Community Vision of a vibrant, well-planned city where people, nature and opportunity thrive through connection, resilience and leadership.
Please contribute your thoughts on the draft plan using the methods listed below and contact Council if you need additional support contributing your feedback.

Background
Council adopted the Council Plan 2025–2029 and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2029 in June 2025, which reaffirmed the council's commitment to access and inclusion. The Disability Action Plan provides the next level of detail, the 'how' of delivering on that commitment.
The draft Disability Action Plan provides a roadmap for how council can positively contribute to ensuring that people with a lived experience of disability can enjoy the same opportunities, rights and respect. It will include a series of actions that will help create an equitable and inclusive community.
How the draft plan has been developed
The desire for council to improve access and inclusion is not new, the Disability Action Plan Implementation Framework 2022 – 2025 has guided Council activities in recent years and this revised plan seeks to continue and build on the progress that has already been made.
The Wodonga Access Group has been a consistent and crucial group for Council to collaborate with, to build an understanding of concerns and needs for people with a disability. This has ensured that the lived experience of people with a disability, carers and supporting organisations has informed the development of the plan. This group will continue to support the monitoring and implementation of the plan once adopted.
The Victorian Disability Act 2006 requires organisations, such as council, to prepare a Disability Action Plan. The Act also sets out the broad purpose of what the plan should focus on – reducing barriers to persons with disabilities, promoting inclusion and participation; and achieving tangible changes in attitudes and practices which discriminate against persons with a disability.
Gathering feedback from the broader community on the draft plan is the final step in finalising this key document.
