Construction to begin Monday, February 19

15 February 2024

About the construction works

Works are scheduled to commence for the changing place and bike hub located within Mulga Car Park.

Set up of the construction site will commence Monday, February 19 with works expected to take approximately four months.

The front section of Mulga Car Park will be unavailable during construction, however there is still plenty of parking at the rear of Mulga Car Park.

Additional all day parking can be found at the rear of the Goods Shed (Aurora Way) as well as in Stanley St, Smythe St, Hume St and Watson St.

What we heard during the consultation

The council completed a 21-day community consultation period following the July 2023 council meeting.

A voting poll was undertaken to gauge the community's support for the proposed Mulga Car park location of the multi-use amenities facility. 50 votes were received via the council’s Make Wodonga Yours page. Of these votes, 42, or 84%, were in support of the location and eight votes, or 16%, voted no and would like to see the multi-use amenities facility installed somewhere else.

Feedback from the consultation was used to inform several changes made to the final design. Those changes include the widening and design of the facilities ramps, the addition of another toilet and the changing room.

There is existing lighting in the Mulga car park and the designs will include additional security lighting in and around the facility.

If the budget permits, the facility will include an E-charging station and CCTV.

There are designated cycle lanes leading in and out of this location, those include Elgin Boulevard, Hume, Smythe, and South streets.

The council resolved to approve the final detailed design at the ordinary council meeting on September 18, 2023.
