5. Notes that officers will consider any targeted short-term measures (for example, temporary active school-zone arrangements or additional signage/line-marking) pending the opening of the new primary school and in consultation with Victoria Police and DTP.

Why we consulted

Wodonga Council sought feedback from the community on the proposed reduction in the speed limit at Baranduda Boulevard from 100km/h to 80km/h or 60km/h to reduce the risk of a high-speed conflict.

The proposed speed reduction would apply to the length of road spanning the Beechworth-Wodonga Rd roundabout to a point 1000m, or 1km, east of the roundabout.

Background information

The Baranduda Boulevard roundabout sits within the Leneva-Baranduda growth zone. This area has experienced population growth, in part due to the establishment of the Leneva Valley Estate.

This population growth, alongside the opening of the Kerribana Primary School in early 2026, will result in a significant increase in traffic movement on Baranduda Boulevard and when turning into and out of Jenning Boulevard, creating a higher-risk environment for a high-speed conflict.

Having identified this risk, the council proposed a reduction in speed from 100km/h to 80km/h or 60km/h as a mitigation measure.
